Usingpasswords
ByusingtheSetupUtilityprogram,youcansetapasswordtopreventunauthorizedaccesstoyourserver.
Youdonothavetosetapasswordtouseyourserver.However,usingapasswordimprovescomputing
security.Ifyoudecidetosetapassword,readthefollowingtopics.
SetupUtilityprogrampasswordtypes
ThefollowingtypesofpasswordsareavailableintheSetupUtilityprogram:
•Supervisorpassword
Settingasupervisorpassworddetersunauthorizedusersfromchangingconfigurationsettings.Ifyou
areresponsibleformaintainingtheconfigurationsettingsofseveralservers,youmightwanttoseta
supervisorpassword.Whenasupervisorpasswordisset,youarepromptedtotypeavalidpassword
eachtimeyoutrytoaccesstheSetupUtilityprogram.TheSetupUtilityprogramcannotbeaccesseduntil
avalidpasswordistypedin.
•Userpassword
Theuserpasswordhasthefollowingtwooptions:
–Setup
WhenSetupisselected,youarepromptedtotypeavalidpasswordeachtimeyoutrytoaccessthe
SetupUtilityprogram.TheSetupUtilityprogramcannotbeaccesseduntilavalidpasswordistypedin.
Note:IfSetupisselectedandthesupervisorpasswordisset,thesupervisorpasswordhashigher
authority.
–Always
WhenAlwaysisselected,theservercannotbeuseduntilavalidpasswordistypedin.
Note:Ifboththesupervisorpasswordanduserpasswordareset,youcantypeeitherpasswordtousethe
server.However,youmustuseyoursupervisorpasswordtochangeanyconfigurationsettings.
Passwordconsiderations
Forsecurityreasons,itisrecommendedthatyouuseastrongpasswordthatcannotbeeasilycompromised.
Notes:
1.TheSetupUtilityprogrampasswordsarecasesensitive.
2.TheserversupportsSetupUtilityprogrampasswordsthatconsistofuptoeightcharacters.
Tosetastrongpassword,usethefollowingguidelines:
•Haveatleastthreecharactersinlength
•Containatleastonealphabeticcharacterandonenumericcharacter
•Notbeyournameoryourusername
•Notbeacommonwordoracommonname
•Besignificantlydifferentfromyourpreviouspasswords
Besidesthealphabeticcharacters(a-z)andnumericcharacters(0-9),theserveralsosupportscharacters
typedusingspecialkeysonthekeyboardforapassword.Refertothehelpmessageonthescreenwhen
settingapasswordtodeterminethevalidspecialcharacters.
