RAID,anacronymforRedundantArrayofIndependentDisks,isatechnologythatprovidesincreased
storagefunctionsandreliabilitythroughredundancy.ThisisachievedbycombiningmultipleHDDsintoa
logicalunit,wheredataisdistributedacrossthedrivesinoneofseveralwayscalledRAIDlevels.
WhenagroupofindependentphysicalHDDsaresetuptouseRAIDtechnology,theyareinaRAIDarray.
ThisarraydistributesdataacrossmultipleHDDs,butthearrayappearstothehostserverasonesingle
storageunit.CreatingandusingRAIDarraysprovideshighperformance,suchastheexpeditedI/O
performance,becauseseveraldrivescanbeaccessedsimultaneously.
RAIDdrivegroupsalsoimprovedatastoragereliabilityandfaulttolerancecomparedwithsingle-drive
