About this task
Attention:
• Go over
“Installation Guidelines” on page 137 to ensure that you work safely.
• Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see
“Power off the server” on page 12).
• If the server is installed in a rack, slide the server out on its rack slide rails to gain access to the top cover,
or remove the server from the rack.
Procedure
Step 1. Make preparations for this task.
a. Remove the top cover (see
“Remove the top cover” on page 240).
b. Remove both PCIe riser cages or fillers, the chassis air baffle, and the PCIe expansion tray (see
“Remove a 4U PCIe riser cage” on page 255, “Remove the chassis air baffle” on page 270, and
“Remove the 4U PCIe expansion tray” on page 249).
c. Remove the fan cage assembly (see
“Remove the fan cage assembly” on page 153).
d. If you are replacing the processor and memory expansion tray, remove the memory modules
(see
“Remove a memory module” on page 179), and PHMs (see “Remove a processor and
heat sink” on page 206
) from the expansion tray.
Important: To avoid component damage, DO NOT remove or install memory modules or
PHMs when the tray is removed from the server.
Step 2. Disengage the processor and memory expansion tray.
