9.0 CHASES
9.1 OVERVIEW
A chase is a recorded list of steps that are to be replayed in order, stepping continuously from one
step to the next and automatically repeating the list when it has reached the end. Each step in a
chase consists of a scene or a snapshot of the output (which is taken when that step is added to
the chase). Up to 250 steps may be recorded for each chase and up to 810 separate chases may
be recorded into the memory, depending upon your maXim model. See the specifications table in
the “Introduction” chapter for details.
Chases are recorded by bank/page/chase number. Bank/page numbers are selected with the red
page or blue page buttons and chase numbers are selected with the red F/A buttons. Chases may
be randomly recorded into any bank/page/chase number however scenes, chases and stacks
share the same memory within each bank. Chases may also be recorded directly into the Grab
master (S & M models).
Chases can be replayed on the red bank (in Scene mode), on the blue bank, as steps in stacks or
on the grab master (S & M models).
A chase can be given a descriptive name.
Chases can be recorded and replayed on any of the red or blue playbacks or the grab master.
When a red bank page is changed or when the red bank is selected to “scene” mode, the contents
(scenes and chases) of the indicated red page are loaded into the red playbacks.
When a blue bank page is changed, the contents (scenes and chases) of the indicated blue page
are loaded into the blue playbacks.
Chase rate and crossfade times are recorded in memory as part of each chase.
Up to 91 simultaneous chases may be running at the one time (XXL model).
Chases may be run in any of the following modes;
FORWARD
REVERSE
BOUNCE (Auto reverse at each end)
SINGLE SHOT (Run once and stop) (in either direction)
STOPPED
MANUALLY STEPPED FORWARD
MANUALLY STEPPED REVERSE
The chase RATE is recorded into memory in BPM (Beats Per Minute). You may smoothly take
manual control of the rate of any chase with the Edit wheel.
Traditionally, chases will snap (instantly switch) from step to step but you may also elect to record a
FADE time for the chase so that the chase will crossfade from step to step.
A chase may be edited. The contents of any step may be changed, the rate varied and steps may
be inserted or deleted.
A chase may be copied onto another bank/page/playback or onto or from the Grab master. See the
“MEMORY STRUCTURE” chapter for more details.
NOTE: Extremely complex chases can be created by recording a stack of “linked” steps. See the
“STACKS” chapter for details.
