13.0 PATCH
13.1 OVERVIEW
Patches are required when;
• A particular maXim channel number is to control a different DMX (dimmer) address.
• A single maXim channel is to control several different DMX addresses.
• There are more DMX addresses to be controlled than there are desk channels.
The “patch” allows you to patch (connect) DMX (dimmer) addresses to maXim channel numbers
enabling the maXim S & M models to control up to 512 DMX addresses (one universe) and the
maXim L, XL & XXL models to control up to 1024 DMX addresses (two universes).
• The patch may be turned off for simple operations. This provides a direct 1 to 1 connection
from maXim channels to their respective DMX addresses (Universe 1).
• When the patch is active, DMX addresses will only be connected to maXim channels if you
have patched them.
The patch allows you to patch any DMX address to any maXim channel number. A patch level may
be set for every patch. A single maXim channel may be patched to multiple DMX addresses. A 1 to
1 patch is available to speed the patching process.
13.2 ACTIVATE THE PATCH
To activate the patch,
Hold [function], tap [patch] (a yellow bank function button).
The display asks, “Activate Patch?”
Press [yes]
The screen confirms your action.
If the maXim has had a “total reset” or if all patches have been “removed”, no patches will exist and
there will be no output from the maXim. You will need to “Edit the Patch” (below).
12.3 BYPASS THE PATCH
When the patch is bypassed, a direct 1 to 1 connection is made from maXim channels to their
respective DMX addresses (Universe 1).
To bypass the patch,
Hold [function], tap [patch].
The display asks, “Patch ON - Bypass?”
Press [yes]
The screen confirms your action.
When the patch is bypassed, the patches you have made are still retained in the patch memory.
You can edit the patch even when it is bypassed.
13.4 PATCHING
If you wish to create an entirely new patch, then it is best to clear the patch so any previous
patches will not give unexpected results.
REMOVE (DELETE) All PATCHES
To remove ALL patches,
Hold [function], tap [patch].
Press [remove], [yes].
This action also bypasses the patch.
Note: If you have performed a TOTAL reset, then the patch will have been automatically cleared and
the patch bypassed.
EDIT THE PATCH
To edit the patch,
Hold [function], tap [patch].
