DS1 Interconnections
The
SLC
-2000 System supports either DS1 Distribution or DS1 Feeders, but not
both simultaneously. The same cables may be used to connect to the DSX-1 but
they must be connected at the ARM shelf to the appropriate connectors for their
intended application as follows:
DS1 Feeders
The
SLC
-2000 NAS provides a DS1 metallic feeder capability as a start-up
system without using the SONET feeder circuit packs except for the controllers.
This system, which is not compatible with other network elements in a SONET
network, utilizes quad LIUs interfacing with the DSX-1.
DS1 Distribution
DS1 Pipes
The
SLC
-2000 NAS can be configured to support up to 28 DS1 pipes without
using an external multiplexer. In a DS1 only configuration no MDS are provided
and the DS1 pipes can be used to support DS1 service or DS1 interfaces for
collocated
SLC
Series 5 or
SLC
96 systems. This configuration is used for those
applications that initially require up to 28 DS1's and anticipate future DS0
services. Whenever DS0 services are needed MDS assemblies can be added.
DS1 Extensions
The DDM-Plus system provides both metallic and optical DS1 extensions. For
metallic applications the DDM-Plus can be used as a repeater shelf for T1
extensions. For optical applications the DDM-Plus provides multiplexed optical
transport of four DS1 pipes on multimode or single mode fiber.
