Oxygen Consumption (VO2)
Oxygen Consumption (VO
2
) is a measure of the oxygen consumed by tissues in milliliters/min. Oxygen
Consumption is calculated from CO, Hemoglobin (Hb or SpHb) and arterial saturation (SaO
2
or SpO
2
)
and venous saturation (SVO
2
). It can be expressed as an index VO
2
i by dividing VO
2
by the body surface
area (BSA).
Oxygen Delivery (DO
2
)
Oxygen Delivery (DO
2
) the amount of oxygen delivered to the tissues, is calculated as the product of
cardiac output and oxygen concentration in milliliters/min. DO
2
is calculated from CO, Hemoglobin (Hb or
SpHb) and arterial saturation (SaO
2
or SpO
2
). It can be expressed as an index (DO
2
i) by dividing DO
2
by
the body surface area (BSA).
Pulse Pressure Variation (PPV)
Pulse Pressure Variation (PPV) is a dynamic variable that can predict fluid responsiveness in
mechanically ventilated patients, PPV is the variation in arterial pulse pressure across at least one
respiratory cycle. Pulse Pressure Variation is calculated over a 10 second period which contains one or
more respiratory cycles. PPV is displayed as a percentage (0-100%).
Stroke Volume (SV)
Stroke Volume (SV) is the volume of blood ejected from the heart for each beat in milliliters (ml). The
amount of blood pumped by the left ventricle of the heart in one contraction. It can be expressed is an
index value (SVi) by dividing SV by the body surface area (BSA).
Stroke Volume Variation % (SVV)
Stroke Volume Variation (SVV) is a dynamic variable that can predict fluid responsiveness in
mechanically ventilated patients. SVV is the variation in stroke volume across at least one respiratory
