4 Analyzer Preparation
GAS CONNECTIONS
The TriStar II 3020 uses pressure relief valves to return the analyzer to a safe condition
in the event of a power failure or loss of cryogen. This protects the user from dangerous
pressures on the sample tube. However, extra caution should be employed if toxic or
flammable gases are used. The pressure relief valves vent into the analyzer cabinet.
Additional venting of the cabinet may be required for use with flammable or toxic gases.
These instructions refer to the installation of a gas line, regulator, and gas cylinder for
each type of gas used. Expansion kits or other accessories may be used in the lab. If so,
special consideration should be given to these configurations when installing the gas
lines.
Up to three gas cylinders containing analysis gas and one cylinder of helium can be connected to the
TriStar II. The gas ports are located on the rear panel of the analyzer.
Steps are provided for each of the analysis gases and for the helium. These instructions apply to
standard installations only. Standard means that the gas cylinder is located within 6 feet (1.83 m) of
the analyzer and the gas lines used are those provided by Micromeritics with the analyzer.
