MIOX RIO Series Operators Manual

Checks Prior to Startup
Prior to initial OSG start-up, the following items should be checked:
1. Hose fittings tightened
2. Electrical connections to cell electrodes good [40 ft./lbs. (54 Nꞏm)]
3. Electrical power connection good (correct wiring at disconnect switch)
4. Power and switch gear compartments securely closed
5. Water valves open
6. Brine generator drain valve in closed position
7. Brine generator full of salt and brine feed valve open
8. Oxidant tank vent properly installed
Brine Boost Operation
The brine boost system must be primed before operation. Ensure all plumbing connections are
tight. Remove a fitting or loosen a union after the brine boost pump. This allows air to escape
from the boost pump and plumbing. Once a liquid stream comes out of the fitting/union, replace
the fitting/tighten the union. The brine boost system is now ready for initial operation.
Water Softener Operation
Ensure that the water softener is operating properly before initial startup by testing the water
from the water softener for hardness. If hardness is more than 1 grain per gallon (17.1 ppm), the
softener is not functioning properly. Verify the following:
1. Water Feed Supply - the water feed supply must be connected to the proper inlet on the
water softener head, with the inward-pointing arrow. Water from the softener to the RIO
Series OSG must be connected to the outlet, with the outward pointing arrow.
2. Check Valve - the brine recharge hose has a check valve in the middle of the line with an
arrow that must be pointing from the brine generator toward the water softener.
3. Brine Generator - verify that there is sufficient brine in the brine generator for the water
softener to regenerate. Confirm that brine flows freely out of the tank.
