TheRCA(phono)sockets5/6ontherearpaneloftheKOMPLETEAUDIO6aredigitalcon-
nectorsemployingtheS/PDIF(Sony/PhilipsDigitalInterconnectFormat)transferprotocol.
S/PDIF allows for carrying digital audio signals between devices without loss of quality.
TypicalusersoftheRCA(phono)sockets5/6wouldbeDATtapedecks,synthesizersandCD
playerswithdigitaloutput.
Inessence,DigitalI/Otransmitsdigitalinformationinbothdirections(usingtwomonoRCA
cables).ThesignaltransferredisdigitaldataandgetstranslatedtosoundwaveformsviaS/
PDIF.Forthisconnection,adigitalRCAcableshouldbeused,althoughitisalsopossibleto
usestandardRCA(phono)cables.
In order for the transfer to work, the devices need to be synchronized with each other,
wherebyoneofthedevicesactsasamasterandsendsasyncingsignalandtheotheracts
asaslaveandsyncstoit.TheKOMPLETEAUDIO6canbesettoactasaslave,andsync
to external devices in such a setup.
