After the stuffing bolts have been completely loosened, tap and carefully pry on the
stuffing box until it breaks loose from the fluid cylinder. Grasp the stuffing box and
remove it from the pump (Figure 8-5).

Removal

Plunger Packing:

The stuffing box should be disassembled and overhauled in a clean workbench area.
Remove the packing spring from the end
of
the plunger. Pull the plunger out
of
the
stuffing box (Figure 8-6).
