6.1 Paper Feed Mechanism

1. When PC outputs the scanning-start command, the Hopper lifts until the paper contacts the Paper Feed Roller.
2. The Conveyor Motor is transferred to the rotation of the Conveyor Rollers, Drive Rollers and Exit Roller.
3. The Paper Feed Motor drives the Paper Feed Roller, the Separation Roller, and the Retard Roller. The Paper Feed
Roller and the Separation Roller always rotate in the paper feed direction (
). The Retard Roller rotates
against the paper feed direction (
) when there is more than one sheet between the Separation Roller and
the Retard Roller. On the otherhand when there is only one sheet or there no sheet, the Retard Roller rotates in the
same direction as the Feed.
Note:
The scanner has a multiple sheet feed mode that keeps the Retard Roller separated from the Separation Roller when
scanning multiple feeds.
4. When the leading edge of a sheet is passed into the paper feed route by rotating the Paper Feed Roller, the paper
passes through the Separation Roller and Retard Roller. Because the Retard Roller is rotating against the feed
direction, inadvertent multiplefeeds are prevented.
5. When the Starting Position Sensor detects the top of the first page, the Paper Feed Motor, the Paper Feed Roller, the
Separation Roller, and the Retard Roller are stopped. When the top of the paper reaches the Front-side Scanning
