ng tone occurs and the display changes.
As noted the user should back away until the
Dose Rate level falls below this limit and the
display warning goes away.
Users should be reminded that short-term
operation close to the limit has a negligible
hazard level but prolonged operation significantly
above this level is not recommended.
If the dose rate exceeds 40µSv/h, the unit
automatically switches the dose rate
measurement from NaI crystal to GM tube.
5.1.2 NEUTRON ALARM
If the integrated Neutron detector detects
neutrons above the preset alarm threshold then a
Neutron Alarm is declared (NEUTRONS
DETECTED!). A distinctive audio warning tone
occurs and the display shows neutron warning
(see Figure).
5.1.3 SEARCH ALARM
If the ALARM LEVEL parameter (for settings see
Section 5.5.1
(e)) is set to a preset value and the
radiat
ion field exceeds this value, a distinct audio
beep will be heard. As the user moves away from
the source, the audio stops and the display
changes back to SCANNING.
5.1.4 SEARCH - AUDIO
In the SEARCH mode, the radiation data from the high-sensitivity Sodium-Iodide (NaI)
detector is used to create an audio search capability thus permitting the user to have an
“eyes-free” operational mode. It is very difficult to scan a vehicle and inspect the display
continuously.
EYES FREE Audio Warning System:
When radioactivity is detected, the Syclone emits an audio tone that gets louder and rises in
pitch the closer it gets to the source. The “eyes free” operation permits the user to scan a
vehicle without inspecting the display continuously.
