AlthoughtheBasestationiswaterprooftoIPx6andIPx7,
itisrecommendedthattheBasestationismounted
belowdecks,inanareaprotectedfromprolongedand
directexposuretorainandsaltspray.
RaymicHandset
TheHandsethasbeendesignedtobemountedabove
orbelowdecksandisratedtoIPx6andIPx7 .
Passivespeaker
Thespeakershasbeendesignedtobemountedabove
orbelowdecksandareratedtoIPx6andIPx7.
Cableroutingrequirements
Ensuretheunitismountedinalocationwhichallows
properroutingandconnectionofcables:
Minimumcablebendradiusof100mm(3.94in)is
requiredunlessotherwisestated.
Usecablesupportstopreventstressonconnectors.
Electricalinterference
Selectalocationthatisfarenoughawayfromdevices
thatmaycauseinterference,suchasmotors,generators
andradiotransmitters/receivers.
Powersupply
Selectalocationthatisascloseaspossibletothe
vessel’sDCpowersupply.Thiswillhelptokeepcable
runstoaminimum.
RFinterference
Certainthird-partyexternalelectricalequipmentcan
causeRadioFrequency(RF)interferencewithGNSS
(GPS),AISorVHFdevices,iftheexternalequipmentis
notadequatelyinsulatedandemitsexcessivelevelsof
electromagneticinterference(EMI).
Somecommonexamplesofsuchexternalequipment
includeLEDspotorstriplights,andterrestrialTVtuners.
Tominimizeinterferencefromsuchequipment:
KeepitasfarawayfromGNSS(GPS),AISorVHF
devicesaspossible.
Ensurethatanypowercablesforexternalequipment
arenotentangledwiththepowerordatacablesfor
thesedevices.
Considerfittingoneormorehighfrequency
suppressionferritestotheEMI-emittingdevice.The
ferrite(s)shouldberatedtobeeffectiveintherange
100MHzto2.5GHz,andshouldbefittedtothepower
cableandanyothercablesexitingtheEMI-emitting
device,ascloseaspossibletothepositionwherethe
cableexitsthedevice.
Compasssafedistance
Whenchoosingasuitablelocationforyourproductyou
shouldaimtomaintainthemaximumpossibledistance
betweentheproductandanyinstalledcompass.This
distanceshouldbeatleast1m(3ft)inalldirections.For
smallervesselsitmaynotbepossibletoachievethis
distance.Inthissituationensurethatthecompassisnot
affectedbytheproductwhenitispoweredon.
AntennamountingandEMEexposure
EnsurethatyourVHFantennaisconnectedtotheradio
beforetransmission.
Raymarine®declaresaMaximumPermissibleExposure
(MPE)radiusof1.8meters(5.9ft.)forthissystem,
assuming25wattsoutputtoanomnidirectionalantenna
of3dBigainorless.
Forwatercraftwithsuitablestructures,theantennabase
mustbeatleast3.8meters(12.5ft)abovethemaindeck
tomeettheMPEforpersonsupto2metres(6.6ft)tall.
Forwatercraftwithoutsuchstructures,theantennamust
bemountedsothatitsbaseisaminimumof1.8meters
(5.9ft.)verticallyfromheadsofallpersons.
Theantennamustbeisolatedfromthevessel’s
metalworkusinganinsulated(e.g.plastic)mounting
bracket.
