Thissectiondescribestheimagecreationprocessusedbytheprinter.
2.2.6.1.PrintingProcessOverview
A:LaserScanningUnit(LSU)
B:TransferRoller
C:OPCDrum
D:TonerCartridge
TheprintingsystemofthisproductincludestheLSUwith2laserbeams,theimagingunit,thetonercartridgeandthe
transferunit.
TheImagingunitconsistsofaDrumunitandDevelopmentunit.TheDrumunithasanOPCdrum,Chargeroller,and
Cleaningblade.
TheOPCdrum[C]ischargedwithanegativevoltagebytheChargerollerandisexposedbythelightfromtheLSU(Laser
Scanningunit)[A].ThelightproducedbythelasercreatesalatentimagebydischargingonthesurfaceoftheOPCdrum.
Thenegativelychargedtonerisattractedtothelatentdrumimageduetoanelectriceld.Thetoner(visibleimage)onthe
OPCdrumistransferredtothepaperbythepositivebiasappliedtothersttransferroller[C].Thetonercartridge[D]
supplieswiththetonertothedevelopmentunit.
ProcessSteps
1)OPCdrumcharge:TheChargerollergivesthedrumanegativecharge.
2)LaserExposure:LightproducedbyalaserdiodeisprojectedonthechargedOPCthroughthelensandmirrors.
3)Development:Thismachineusesadual-componentdevelopmentsystem.Themagneticrollercarriesnegatively
chargedtonertothelatentimageonthedrumsurface.
4)Transfer:ThetransferrolleroppositetheOPCdrumstransferstonerfromthedrumstothetransfermedia(e.g.
paper,OHPlm,etc).
5)CleaningforOPCdrum:Thecleaningbladeremovesremainingtonersonthedrumsurfaceafterimagetransfer
tothepaper.
6)QuenchingforOPCdrum:Dischargingthedrumisdonebyilluminatingthewholeareaofthedrumwiththe
LEDlampsattheendofeveryjob.
