INTRODUCTION
Example 2 is similar to Example 1, but minor changes and additions have been made to
demonstrate additional SEL-2020 features and capabilities. The cable for the relay connected to
the SEL-2020 Port 7 is replaced with a short-haul modem that supports communication, but not
IRIG-B signal, and a serial printer is added to SEL-2020 Port 9.
IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM
Your objective in Example 2 is to accomplish the following tasks:
• You want the SEL-2020 to print all unsolicited messages (e.g., summary event reports,
power-up messages) that are generated by the relays connected to the SEL-2020.
• You want to time-synchronize the clock/calendars on all of the connected relays, including
one that cannot accept IRIG-B because it is remotely connected through short-haul
modems.
