4.0OPERATIONOFTHEBALANCER

operationofthebalancer.
Allbalancerfunctionsareinputintothemain
computerthroughthelargeeasytoreadtouchpanel.
Althougheachwheeltireassemblydifferinsomeways
allbalancingjobsrequirebasicallythesame
procedure.Theorderofeventstotakeplaceare:
1.Inspectionofthewheel/tireassembly
2.Mountingwheelontoshaftoradapter
3.SelectionofBalancingModeandPreferences
4.Entryofwheelparameters
5.Spinningthewheel
6.Applyingtherecommendedweight
7.Checkspinifdesired
8.Dismountingthewheel
Thefollowingoperationinstructionswillfollowthe
basicoutlineabove.
4.1CHECKLIST‐INSPECTIO N
ObserveBeforeBalancingWheel
1.Checkforproperairpressure.Ifnotcorrect,inflate
tocorrectpressure.
2.Checkforanyforeignmaterialinsidetire.Ifpresent,
removebeforebalancingtire.
WATERISFOREIGNMATERIAL!
3.Removeoldweightsoldweightsmaybe
impropervalueorinwronglocation.
4.Besuretireandwheelarefreeofexcessivedirt,
rustandlargestones.Usewirebrushonbacksideof
wheelifnecessary.
4.2WHEELMOUNTING
Nearly all standard wheels and many alloy wheels have
accurately machined center holes, and they should be
mounted with center cones. Accurate balancing
dependsonaccuratemountingofthewheelandcorrect
seating of the cone in the pilot hole. Insure that the
wheel is centered on the shaft exactly as it will be
mountedtothevehicle.
Before starting any balancing procedure it is very
important that the wheel is mounted on the machine
with the proper adaptors. Anincorrect centering of the
wheelwillresultinconsiderableimbalance.
There are many types of wheels and Snapon supplies
adaptors of good quality and durability for the large
majority.Howeverifyoumeetspecialwheelswhichmay
requireaspecificadaptor,callyourSnaponfranchise.
Rimsmaybedividedintothesemajorgroups:
1.Carwheelswithatruecenterhole.
2.Carwheelswithoutacenterhole.
3.Carwheelswithanuntruecenterhole.
4.Lighttruckwheels.
5.Lugcentricwheels
6.Cladwheels
4.2.1StandardWheels(backconemount)
MountthewheelasdetailedbelowinFigure11:
1.Mountproperconeagainstspringplate.
2.Mountwheelonshaftinthesamemannerasyouwouldon
thecar.
3.Mountpressurecuponshaftandplaceagainstoutsideof
wheel,followwiththeQuicknut.
4.TightenQuicknutsecurelywithbothhands.Tooperatethe
Quicknutpullthelockunlocklever(Figure12).Slidethe
Quicknutonthethreadedshaft.Whenincontactwiththe
rim,releasetheunlockleverandtightenfirmly.Toassistin
centeringthewheelproperly,rotatethewheelontheshaft
whiletighteningthequicknut.
