5.10Behind–the–spokesplacement(SWM)
Whenspokewheelsarebalanced,thebehind–the–
spokesplacementmode(alsocalledsplitweightmode)
allowsbalanceweightswhichwouldhavetobefitted
betweentwospokesaccordingtothemeasured
unbalance(hencewouldbevisiblefromoutside)tobe
placedinhiddenpositionbehindtwospokesadjacentto
theunbalancelocation(seeexample,Fig.5‐26).Aftera
measuringruntheelectronicunitcalculatesthebehind–
the–spokesplacementautomaticallyandreadsthe
relativebalanceweightlocationsonthescreen.The
operatingstepsforthebehind–the–spokesplacement
modearedescribedandillustratedbelow.
5.10.1SplitWeightMode(SWM)
SelectingispossibleonlyafterbalancingaHWMwheel
thathasanimbalance10gramintherightplane.
Note:The“fine”read‐outaccuracyisnotavailablewith
thismode.Selectthismodeto“hide”therightplane
weightbehindthetwospokesthatarenearesttothe
calculatedweightapplicationposition.Thatway,the
weightsarenotvisiblefrom“outside”.Takeinto
accountthefollowinglimitations(Fig.5‐27):‐thewhole
enclosedangleislimitedto120°.‐bothangles(from
“visibleweightposition”toeither“hiddenweight
position”)mustbebiggerthan0°.Applytheweightin
theleftplaneofanHWMwheel.DONOTapplythe
weightintherightsideplane,butselecttheMODE‐key.
