6.3 Notes
NOTE: The Pad Safe System (PSS) is active for Monopolar and Argon Method(s).
NOTE: Monopolar and Bipolar outputs are not available when the gi4000 ESU is in
Standby Mode. The lavage function is always active when the unit is powered ON.
NOTE: The ultimate water flow rate will be defined by the smallest size lumen used with
any tubing or accessory attached. The pump activates at a default flow rate, and the flow
rate is user controlled by up and down buttons shown by the Flow Indicator Lights.
Increasing lights from the bottom to the top displays increasing flow rates. The user can
expect flow rates between about 100 and 700 ml/min depending on tubing size, tubing
length and type of endoscope used.
NOTE: DO NOT press any pedals or use the Touchscreen Display while the gi4000 ESU
is performing the Power ON Self-Test (POST).
NOTE: A patient dispersive electrode is not required for bipolar procedures. The Pad Safe
System (PSS) Indicator Lights will no longer illuminate when the user switches to the
Bipolar Method.
NOTE: It is not possible to activate both energy delivery (Monopolar or Bipolar) AND
lavage concurrently.
NOTE: When a Fault displays on the screen, reset the gi4000 ESU by turning the power
ON/OFF switch OFF and back ON. If the Fault clears the screen, the gi4000 ESU can be
put back into service. If the Fault does not clear from the screen, contact STERIS
Customer Service at 1-800-769-8226 or your local STERIS Endoscopy Electrosurgery
Specialist for a repair or replacement.
NOTE: The gi4000 ESU features an Event Log which lists the last ten (10) Information,
Warning and Fault notifications displayed by the unit and is shown in the Service Menu.
The event log is maintained when the gi4000 ESU is powered OFF. When the Event Log
reaches capacity, the earliest entry is deleted to make room for the newest entry.
NOTE: The gi4000 ESU Footswitch is fully submersible for cleaning. The footswitch
connector is NOT submersible. DO NOT get it wet when cleaning the footswitch.
NOTE: The gi4000 should undergo preventive maintenance annually.
NOTE: The gi4000 is equipped with an Internal Argon Gas Filter which must be changed
annually during preventive maintenance of the system.
NOTE: Argon is classified as a "non-hazardous" gas. See the Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
on the STERIS Endoscopy web site for further information.
