4.1 POWERING ON THE GNC 420
Normal operating procedures are completely described in the GARMIN
GNC 420Pilot's Guide, P/N 190-00140-20, Rev. A, dated July 1999, or later
appropriaterevision.
TheGNC420isshowninfigure7-1.NOTE:
(a) Rotate the Com power/volume knob clockwise to turn the unit
onandsetthedesiredradiovolume.
(c) A welcome page appears briefly and the unit will conduct a self-testto
ensureproperoperation.Duringtheself-testcheck for:
(1) CDI-halfleft/noflag
(2) G/S-half/no flag
(3) TO/From flag-to
(4) Bearingto-135°

(e) Emergency Frequency of 121.500 MHz
In an in-flight emergency,depressing and holding the Comm transfer
button for 2 seconds will select the emergency frequency of 121.500
MHzintothe"Active"frequency window.
