SECTION 4
NORMAL PROCEDURES
(l) Cruise (4.5 l)
Adjust the elevator trim, to makeflying on long routes easier.
The cruise speed and the cruise power settings depend on many
factorssuchasaltitude,airtemperature,aircraftloadingandsoon.
The normal cruising power is 55% - 75% of the rated horsepower of
the engine. Airspeeds, which may be obtained at various altitudes
and power settings, can be determined from the performance graphs
providedinsection5.
A correct mixture setting can significantly reduce fuel consumption.
Forthat:
(a) Establish desired cruise power and allow engine parameters to
stabilize.
(b) Press BUTTON 1 at VM 1000 display (see Section 7) to activate the
“LeanEGTMode”.
(c) Smoothly lean engine mixture by rotating the knob counter-
clockwise to start the EGT bars climbing (about one bar per 2
seconds). If the leanest EGT has been detected, the bar graph for
thatEGTwillbeginflashing. Stop leaning.
(d) Enrich engine mixture by rotating mixture knob counter-
clockwisetosetfinalmixtureasfollows:
(1) For (up to 75% power) - 150°F on rich
sidepeakEGT.
Never exceed the maximum red line cylinder head temperature
limit.
Always return the mixture to full rich before increasing power
settings.
Prolonged operation with a lean mixture, at more than 75%
enginepower,canresultinenginedamage.
