IfyouneedtoclosetheThinkPadSetupprogramandrestartthesystem,selectRestartfromtheThinkPad
Setupprogrammainmenu.Thefollowingsubmenuoptionsaredisplayed:
ExitSavingChanges:Restartthesystemaftersavingthechanges.
ExitDiscardingChanges:Restartthesystemwithoutsavingthechanges.
LoadSetupDefaults:Loadthedefaultsettingthatwasineffectatthetimeofpurchase.
EnableOSOptimizedDefaultstomeettheMicrosoftWindows8orWindows8.1certification
requirements.Whenyouchangethissetting,someothersettingsarechangedautomatically.Theaffected
settingsareCSMSupport,UEFI/LegacyBoot,SecureBoot,andSecureRollBackPrevention.
DiscardChanges:Discardthechanges.
SaveChanges:Savethechanges.
UpdatingtheUEFIBIOS
TheUEFIBIOSisthefirstprogramthatthecomputerrunswhenthecomputeristurnedon.TheUEFIBIOS
initializesthehardwarecomponents,andloadstheoperatingsystemandotherprograms.
YoucanupdatetheUEFIBIOSbystartingyourcomputerfromaflashupdateopticaldiscoraflashupdate
programrunningintheWindowsenvironment.Whenyouinstallanewprogram,adevicedriver,orhardware,
youmightbeinformedtoupdatetheUEFIBIOS.

Usingsystemmanagement
Thistopicisprimarilyintendedforthenetworkadministrators.
Yourcomputerisdesignedformanageability,sothatyoucanredirectmoreresourcestobettermeet

Thismanageability,knownasTotalCostofOwnership(TCO),enablesyoutoremotelyoperateclient

ReferenceSpecification,version2.6.1.SMBIOSprovidesinformationaboutthehardwarecomponentsof
yourcomputer.ItistheresponsibilityoftheUEFIBIOStoprovideinformationaboutitselfandthedeviceson
thesystemboard.ThisspecificationdocumentsthestandardsforgettingaccesstothisBIOSinformation.
PrebooteXecutionEnvironment
ThePrebooteXecutionEnvironment(PXE)technologymakesthecomputermoremanageablebyenabling
thecomputertostartfromaserver.YourcomputersupportsthepersonalcomputerfunctionsthatPXE
requires.Forexample,withtheappropriateLANcard,yourcomputercanbestartedfromthePXEserver.
Note:TheRemoteInitialProgramLoad(RIPLorRPL)functioncannotbeusedwithyourcomputer.
