9.1.6 Tensioning and maintenance of the belts
For the proper adjustment and maintenance of the belts, a belt tension tester is attached to the
machine. When driving with belts that are too loose, their service life and efficiency decreases
significantly and the pulley are severely worn out. If the belts are too tight, the wear of the machine
bearings is increased.
The belt tension tester operates in the following manner:
1. Spin the transmission several times so that it
spreads out across the entire belt before
measuring the tension.
2. Place the tension tester on the belt between
the pulleys; press the indicator into the scale.
3. Only operate the tension tester with one
finger.
4. Then activate the tester with continuous
increasing pressure until you
hear/notice a click. After this
click, do not press any longer.
5. Remove the tester off the belt,
and subtract the tension in the
notch between the scale and the
front edge of the
indicator/pointer.
6. Adjust the belt tension until the
measured value and the values given in the table below are the same.
Do not forget to turn the transmission several times after each adjustment in order to ensure
that the belt tension around the pulley is the same as on the rest of the belt.
