set
up

connection,
use
the
Dial-Up
Networking
Wizard:

Click
Start,
then
point
to
Programs,
Accessories,

cations.

NOTE:
When
you
are
connected
to
a
network,
don'tusethe
Windows
98
Stand
By
command
or
Toshiba's
Resume
Mode.
These
utilities
may
cause
you
to
lose
access
to
the
network
when you
turn
on
the
computer
again.
Connecting
directly to
a
remote
computer
To
connect
directly
to
a
remote
computer
or
a
bulletin
board
ser
vice
(BBS),
you
need
a
general-purpose
communications
program.
In
addition,
to
connect
to
another
computer
you
must
know:
The
communications
parameters
The
file
transfer
protocol (only
if
you
are
downloading
or
uploading
files)
The
following
sections
provide
information
on
communications
parameters
and
file
transfer
protocols.
Communications
parameters
There
are
four
communications
parameters
with
which
you
need
to
be
concerned:
Modem
speed
is
the
speed
at
which
the
modem
transfers
infor
mation.
Speeds
are
measured
in
bits
per
second.
Your
modem
manual
documents
the
speed
of
your
modem.
Data
bits
is
the
number
of
bits in
one
character.
This
number
is
usually
seven
or
eight.
