12 Troubleshooting
The gimbal keeps resetting or never fully initializes.
The most common source of this problem is insufficient power, resulting in a brown out of
the gimbal. Solutions are either improving the provided power or reducing the gimbal
power requirements. The amount of power required can be reduced by lowering the Init
Cur and Abs Max Power settings in the Limits page of OrionUI. However, if these are
lowered too much, the gimbal will not work properly.
SkyLink can’t find a gimbal on the network.
This can happen if the gimbal has a static IP address that isn’t on the SkyLink computer’s
subnet or if an entire network is setup with static IP addresses (ie no DHCP server) and the
gimbal’s static or default address isn’t on the network’s subnet. In this case, connect to the
gimbal over a serial port and use SkyLink to set an appropriate IP address, cycle power, then
try to connector over Ethernet again.
In some instances, SkyLink won’t find a gimbal if a computer has multiple network adapters
such as a wireless network adapter and a physical RJ45 ethernet port adapter. In this case,
disable all networks not being used in Windows’ Network and Sharing Center under Change
Adaptor Settings.
SkyLink connects to the gimbal, but doesn’t display video.
In the Connection dialog, Video Stream menu, click To This PC. If this doesn’t work, verify
the gimbal is sending video to your computer by verifying that the gimbal video destination
shown under Gimbal Info matches the IP address of your computer. If the gimbal is sending
video to your PC, disable all firewalls.
I’m experiencing significant video delays and/or the gimbal continuously disconnects then
reconnects to SkyLink.
These conditions are commonly observed if using the gimbal over a busy network or over a
datalink that doesn’t have sufficient bandwidth. In general, these conditions are more
commonly observed on wireless networks, so use a wired LAN if possible. If operating the
gimbal over a datalink, the gimbal target video bitrate should be reduced to improve
performance.
I can’t remember what static IP address I set my gimbal to.
Connect to the gimbal over a serial port and use SkyLink to switch back to a dynamic IP
address, after which you can connect over Ethernet again and reassign a static IP address.
