6 Preparation
• Convince yourself that it is safe to start the
engine.
• Set the control lever to ‘half throttle’ with-
out engaging the gearbox.
• Turn the start key on the instrument panel
clock-wise to the ‘ON’ position.
• Re-set the trip mechanism by lifting the
plunger (1) allowing the trip lever (2) to
move upwards.
• Place the handle (3) on the spring starter.
8 Winding the springs
• Using the handle (3) clockwise to wind the
springs.
For a warm engine wind until the white
springs are visible through the inspection
window (4).
For a cold engine wind further until the red
springs are visible through the inspection
window.
Overwinding will reduce the life of the starter.
