Fuel system
General
All engines are equipped with Bosch fuel injection
pump. These pumps have mechanical engine speed
regulator.
The injectors are supplied with fuel under high pres-
sure from the fuel injection pump and spray the fuel
into the combustion chamber in the form of a finely
misted jet. The pressure under which the injector
operates can be adjusted by replacing the shims
above the spring.
The fuel injection equipment may only be checked
and adjusted by personnel who have the necessary
training.
The supply pump is the membrane type and is me-
chanically driven. It is mounted on the right side of
the camshaft cover and is driven by an eccentric
cam on the camshaft. The pump is equipped with a
lever for hand pumping.
It is important that no contaminants enter the fuel
system. Before a connector is slackened off, clean
thoroughly around the connector. After a component
has been slackened, position suitable protection
over all open terminals.
