commandshouldbeappliedtoanyelementinthesystem.
Oncecertainthatallthesestepshavebeensafelyandproperlyfollowed,turnonthemainDC
powersupply.UseavoltmeterordigitalmultimetertoonceagainchecktheDCpowersupply
level.
Analog Input Drives
1. Turnonthe"test"powersupplyconnectedtotheexternalpotentiometer.
2. Sl
owlyturnthepotentiometerinonedirectionwhileobservingthemotorshaft.
Only make very slight adjustments to the reference potentiometer to
avoid
causing damage to the motor. Since the drive is in Current
(Torque) Mode and there is no load on the motor shaft, even a small
potentiometer adjustment can create high speeds at the motor shaft.
Exercise caution when adjusting the potentiometer.
• Forsinglephasemotors,thisshouldcausethemotorshafttoenergizeinonedirection.
Slowlyturningthepotentiometerfurtherinthatsamedirection,andalsointheopposite
directionshouldcausethemotorshafttomovesmoothlyinresponsetotheinput.
• Forthreephasemotors,thethreemotorwiresmayhavetobechangedinorderto
properlycommutatethemotor.Therearesixdifferentwaysthatthethreemotorwires
canbeattachedtothemountingcardorPCBinterface.Allsixwillhavetobetestedinorder
tofindtherightcommutation.
Before removing the motor wires, turn of
f both the main DC power supply
and the "test" power supply. Never remove or make any connections to
the drive while power is applied!
Thepropercombinationofmotorwir
eswillyieldsmoothmotionandidenticalspeedsin
bothdirections.Impropercombinationswillcausejerkymotion,slowmovementinone
direction,and/oraudiblenoise.Oncethepropercombinationhasbeenfound,turningthe
potentiometerslowlyinbothdirectionsshouldcausethemotorshafttorotateappropri‐
atelyinresponsetotheinput.
PWM Input Drives
1. TurnonthefunctiongeneratortoapplythePWMsignaltothePWMINpin.
2. Monit
ortheFunctionGeneratorPWMsignalonanoscilloscope.BesuretokeepthePWM
frequencywithinthe10‐25kHzrange.ByvaryingthedutycycleofthePWMinputsignal,
themotorshaftshouldrotateinresponsetotheinput.
• Forsinglephasemotors,thisshouldcausethemotorshafttoenergizeinonedirection.
SlowlyvaryingthePWMdutycycleshouldcausethemotorshafttomovesmoothlyin
responsetotheinput.
• Forthreephasemotors,thethreemotorwiresmayhavetobechangedinorderto
properlycommutatethemotor.Therearesixdifferentwaysthatthethreemotorwires
