5.6.22. TEI Layer Drop
ISDN exchange settings vary from country to country in terms of how ISDN calls are connected and dis-
connected. In Australia for example, the exchanges drop Layer 1 after each call is disconnected. The
Terminal Endpoint Identifier (TEI) number is also renegotiated for every call made.
The ETSI protocol requirements do not explicitly state whether the TEI negotiation may or may not be ne-
gotiated for every ISDN call after a Layer 1 re-activation.
This allows other countries to set the Layer1/TEI appropriately to suit the exchanges.
If this menu option is changed, the user will be prompted to exit the menus and reboot the unit for the
changes to take effect.
Layer 1 and TEI drop
Note: The ISDN stack is configured as default to remove its TEIs (Terminal Endpoint Identifier) when
the network drops the Layer 1 and 2 connection to the unit.
5.6.23. Fixed ISDN Mode
Fixed ISDN Mode is a point to point fixed isdn connection that does not need dialled and does not use the d
channel.
5.6.24. Data over Voice
DoV is a feature on the Codec which sends a code ( bearer capability ) to the Telstra ISDN Cisco Router tell-
ing it that it is about to set up a voice call. It lets the Telco know it requires a 3.5 KHz G711 service and as this
service is not charged on a timed basis but at a flat rate per connection, the user of the service get a cheaper
connection. Once the connection is made the user then puts whatever they want on the voice line, ie data and
it is called Data Over Voice (DOV).
5.6.25. Speed Dial Redial
This option enabled the codec to be able to keep re-dialing the ISDN connection on failure of the ISDN line.
This can be set from 1-5 attempts or infinity (i.e. codec continually redials until a successful connection is
made).
