INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONTROLS

1. KEY SWITCH 7. TRENCHER BOOM LEVER

KEY SWITCH
The key switch (1) has the following three positions:
1. OFF - Use this position to stop the engine, deenergize
the electrical system and to remove the key.
2. ON - Turn the key clockwise to the first position to
energize the electrical system. The key will return to
this position after you release the key from START.
3. START - Turn the key clockwise to the second position
to actuate the starter motor to start the engine.
Release the key switch as soon as the engine starts.
NOTE:
See STARTING THE ENGINE in this manual for the
correct procedure to start the engine.
THROTTLE
Pull back the throttle handle (2) to increase the engine
speed. Push the handle forward to decrease the engine
speed.
FORWARD/REVERSE LEVER
Push the lever (3) FORWARD for forward ground travel.
Pull the lever REARWARD for reverse ground travel.
NEUTRAL is in the center position.
NOTE:
You MUST be seated in the operator’s seat to
ENGAGE the Forward/Reverse Lever or the engine will
shut down in 2 seconds
.
RIGHT STEERING BRAKE LEVER
Pull the lever (4) REARWARD to disengage power to the
right track. Pull the lever farther rearward to apply the
right brake. Pull the lever all the way rearward to lock the
right brake.
AMMETER
The ammeter (5) shows the rate of charge or discharge of
the battery. When the needle is to the right of 0, the
alternator is charging the battery. If the needle is to the
left of 0 during normal engine operation, the battery is
discharging. Stop the engine and check for a problem in
the charging system.
SPEED CREEP CONTROL
This control (6) works with the Forward/Reverse Lever (3)
to let you vary the ground speed of the machine during
trenching operation. Actuate the Forward/Reverse Lever
(3). Turn the Speed Creep Control clockwise to increase
the ground speed or counterclockwise to decrease the
ground speed.
TRENCHER BOOM LEVER
Pull the lever (7) REARWARD to raise the trencher boom.
Push the lever FORWARD to lower the trencher boom.
LEFT STEERING BRAKE LEVER
Pull the lever (8) REARWARD to disengage power to the
left track. Pull the lever farther rearward to apply the left
brake. Pull the lever all the way rearward to lock the left
brake.
