ADJUSTMENT/MAINTENANCE
AU103168 C7B 44
The adjustable clutch of the trencher protects the
trencher drive components. When correctly adjusted, the
clutch will slip just enough to stall the engine if the
digging chain becomes jammed. The service life of the
clutch will be reduced if the clutch is adjusted too loose. If
the clutch is adjusted too tight, the digging chain or drive
belt can be damaged.
1. To tighten the clutch, pull out the locking pin (1) and
rotate the adjusting yoke clockwise until the locking
pin engages the next hole in the clutch plate.
2. To loosen the clutch, pull out the locking pin and
rotate the adjusting yoke counterclockwise until the
locking pin engages the next hole in the clutch plate.
NOTE:
If the clutch does not release after several
adjustments, the six release springs behind the clutch
plate can be weak and must be replaced. See your dealer.
3. When the clutch is adjusted correctly, the clutch will
rotate 1-1/2 to 2 revolutions before stalling the
engine if the digging chain becomes jammed.
TRENCHER DRIVE CHAIN TENSION
Check the trencher drive chain tension every 50 hours of
operation. Adjust as necessary. If the drive chain is new,
check and adjust the chain every 2 hours until the tension
remains constant.
