Administering Communication Manager for SES
Issue 1 May 2011 47
Aliasing SIP Deskphones for switch compatibility
SIP software Release 6.0.1, SP1 supports the 9608, 9611G, 9621G, and 9641G deskphones
using Avaya Communication Manager (CM) Release 6.0 and later. These models are not
natively supported and must be administered as other 96xx Series models according to the
chart below. For deskphones running a CM Release earlier than 5.2, be sure to administer 9600
Series SIP IP Telephones as 4620SIP deskphones on Avaya Communication Manager.
Deskphones running CM Release 5.2 and later can be administered as 96xxSIP deskphones,
where xx represents the deskphone model number (for example, 9620, 9630, etc.). The chart
that follows illustrates CM/deskphone compatibility.
You can add up to three SBM24 Button Modules on each deskphone that supports an SBM24
(9608, 9611G, and 9641G IP Deskphones). You can add up to three BM12 Button Modules to
the 9608, 9611G, and/or 9641G however multiple button modules attached to a single 9608,
9611G or 9641G must all be the same model type.
For specific administration instructions about the 9600 Series SIP IP Telephones, see
Administering stations
on page 55.
Administering Communication Manager for SES
There are several initial CM provisioning tasks that must be performed before administering SIP
users. These tasks are described in SIP Support in Avaya Communication Manager Running on
Avaya S8XXX Servers (Document Number 555-245-206). The tasks to administer
Communication Manager for SIP Enablement Services (SES) fall into three categories:
●
system-level preparation,
●
SIP trunk administration, and
●
call routing administration
The sections that follow describe each of these tasks.
