8. Momentarily press and release both display control buttons until the following message appears on the
display:
RANGE LIMIT -dBm
RSSI-120 SET OFF
The example display above shows the controller’s Receive Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) value at
-120 dBm with the Range Limit option disabled
The RSSI level is the strength of the RF signal received from the controller which should be transmitting,
or the background noise level if no signal is being broadcast.
9. Referring back to Figure 28, check signal strengths with the remote control operator transmitting from
various positions at the extremities of the operating range. Observe the displayed RSSI from the
controller while the operator is transmitting from each of these positions, noting that received signal
strengths will vary due to materials and obstructions on the ground between the controller and antennas.
Whenever possible, remove all such obstructions out of the operating area to harmonize the received
signal strengths from these operating positions.
10. Press and release either button to change the Range Limit status. A display of a number enables the
Range Limit option.
The setpoint can be set to any value between -50 dBm and -126 dBm. In this example, attempting to set
a value below -120 dBm will enable the Range Extend option and change the display to EXT. Setting a
value higher than -50 dBm disables the Range Limit and changes the display to OFF. Remember that
-117 dBm is a stronger signal than -120 dBm.
11. Once the desired Range Limit status is set, press and hold both display control buttons for approximately
three seconds. The status will be saved and the receiver will cycle through its power-up self check.
12. If applicable, de-activate the controller function previously maintained in step 5 above. Set the controller
power to ‘OFF’
13. As required, set the Gold Box power to ‘OFF’, replace the lid, close the cover of the receiver/decoder
enclosure, and apply power to the controlled machine motors.
After making any changes to the Range Limit function, test the system for proper operation. Have an operator
take the controller to the desired range and operate a control that will not cause any crane movement, such as a
horn, siren or light. Have the operator move closer to, and farther from, the controlled machine to activate and de-
activate the Range Limit. If necessary, repeat the Range Limit Setup procedure to achieve the desired range
limits.
