5.3 Checking Engine Oil Level
The engine oil level is monitored via the dipstick (A) on the side of the engine.
To check the engine oil level:
1. Stop the truck on level ground and apply the park brake.
2. Lower the forks fully and tilt the mast forward fully.
3. Turn the ignition key switch to the 0off
position, then remove the key.
4. Open the bonnet (A) from the rear of
the truck to gain access to the dipstick.
5. Pull out the dipstick (B) and wipe the oil
off the gauge on the bottom of the
dipstick with a clean lint free cloth.
6. Reinsert the dipstick as far as it will go
then pull it out again.
7. Check that the oil level lies between the
Min and Max marks on the gauge.
8. If the oil level is below the Min mark,
add oil (see Engine Oil System on page
97) of the permissible class and
suitable viscosity but do not exceed the
Max level.

Caution
Switch off the engine before checking the oil level.
Wait for the engine to cool before checking the oil level.
Note
Do not operate the engine if the oil level is below the Min mark or above the
Max mark.
On DPF-equipped engines fuel may get mixed with engine oil during the
regeneration process. This dilutes the oil and increases its quantity. If the oil
rises above the Max mark on the dipstick it has been diluted too much.
Change the engine oil immediately if this is the case.
If the interval between DPF regenerations becomes 5 hours or less, change
the engine oil.
Mixing of engine oils should be avoided because the worst properties of the
mixture are always dominant.
Check the engine oil level before starting or wait at least 5 minutes after
stopping the engine for the oil to drain into the oil pan.
