1. Ensure the park brake is applied and the four-way direction switch is in the neutral
position.
2. Ensure the accelerator pedal is not being pressed.
3. Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn clockwise to position 1 – operating
voltage. The MDC should power up.
4. In cold weather (when the coolant temperature is below 0°C (32°F)) wait until the
glow heater icon goes off before proceeding.
5. Turn the ignition key further clockwise against spring pressure to position 2 - start.
Release the ignition key as soon as the engine starts. The key will return

8. Warm up the engine at medium speed without load.
9. If the engine fails to start after 10 seconds turn the key to the off position for 30
seconds then repeat the starting procedure.
Note
Do not run up the engine immediately to high idling speed / full load
operation from cold. Warm up the engine at medium speed without load. An
insufficiently warmed up engine can shorten its service life.
If the engine fails to start after 10 seconds turn the key to the off position
and wait for 30 seconds before recommencing the starting procedure. The
starter must not be operated continuously for more than 20 seconds.
seconds.
When starting the engine after a long period in storage (more than 3
months), activate the starter for about 10 seconds to allow oil to reach
every engine part.
Note
When the truck is started the wheels will remain in whatever position they
were in when the machine was stopped until the operator selects a
direction of travel on the four-way direction switch.
Note
Do not use ether or any starting fluid for starting the engine as severe
damage will occur.
If the DPF overheats, the engine cannot be restarted until the DPF
temperature falls below 300°C (572°F).
