Remote System Alert Events
Event
Description
BIOS Failure System fails to boot successfully.
Thermal Condition Thermal ASIC reports high temperature. Some systems may generate an
alert message when increasing fan speed.
Chassis Intrusion [1] Smart Cover (hood) Sensor detected cover removal. This event is battery
backed, meaning that should the unit be unplugged (from AC power) during
cover removal, notification will occur after AC power is restored.
Heartbeat Indication of system’s network presence (sent approximately every 30
seconds in normal operation).
NOTE:
[1] Not supported on Configurable Minitower models.
The current Remote System Alert implementation requirements are as follows:
1. 3Com Etherlink 3C905C-TX NIC.
2. 7-pin AOL/SOS cable.
3. 3Com EtherDisk Driver 5.x or later (available from Compaq).
4. Client-side utility software (included with driver).
5. Server-side utility software (called 3Com Remote System Alert Manager on the compaq.com
web site ).
6. Management console running one of the following:
a. HP OpenView Network Node Manager 6.x
b. Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS), version 1.2
