2.10 DC Arc-fault Protection
The inverters include DC Arc-fault detection compliant with UL 1699B. The
inverter will detect electrical noise that is indicative of a DC series arc. Upon
detection of an arc-fault, the inverter will cease operation.
2.11 Module-Level Rapid Shutdown
The RSD version of the inverter wirebox includes a Sunspec powerline
communication transmitter for use with either Tigo TS4-A-F (module/rack
mounted MLPE) and smart modules integrated with the TS4-F in their junction
boxes, or APsmart RSD-S-PLC (module/rack mounted MLPE). The Standard
version of the inverter wirebox is also compatible with a Sunspec powerline
communication transmitter mounted in an external enclosure when used with
Tigo TS4-A-F (module/rack mounted MLPE) and smart modules integrated
with the TS4-F in their junction boxes, APsmart RSD-S-PLC (module/rack
mounted MLPE), or NEP PVG-1/2/3/4 (module/rack mounted MLPE) rapid
shutdown devices. The SCA50/60KTL-DO/US-480 inverters are PVRSS (PV
Rapid Shutdown System) certified to perform module-level rapid shutdown in
compliance with UL QIJS, UL1741, and 2017/2020 NEC 690.12.

When the inverter is connected to the AC voltage source (grid) the PLC
(powerline communication) transmitter integrated within the RSD wirebox
receives power via an internal power supply. Once the transmitter is powered
it will send a “keep alive” signal on the PV string wiring to the MLPE mounted
/integrated at each PV module within the array. By opening the PV system AC
disconnect or AC circuit breaker, this intiates Rapid Shutdown: The AC
conductors become de-energized, the inverter will detect the loss of AC
voltage and cease operation, and the integrated transmitter will lose its power
source and cease sending the “keep alive” signal. When the PLC transmitter
is mounted in an external enclosure and used with the Standard wirebox, a
dedicated power supply for the transmitter and common RSD Initiation device
(e.g., AC disconnect) with the inverter must be used. The maximum
recommended transmitter signal length for the RSD devices is 500’ (1000’
entire circuit length; to the RSD MPLE device and back to inverter).
