Backup Plan
Three major areas should be backed up:
1. IBM System Libraries - ex. QUSRSYS, QGPL, QSYS, QHLPSYS, QDOC and others.
2. Application/User Libraries - ex. ARLIB, APLIB, GLLIB, etc.
3. Folders - ex. Mary Smith, John Doe, etc.
Plans vary according to business needs. Generally plans include:
• Daily backups (all workdays) of libraries and folders that changed frequently.
• Weekly or monthly backups of application/user libraries and folders.
• Quarterly system backups
• As needed following major system changes system backups. Major system
changes include updating with releases or PTF’s, etc.
A system save will save:
• All AS/400 system libraries and objects, including user profiles, system
security, device configuration, and operating system objects.
• All user libraries including all licensed internal code and libraries, all
documents and folders, all distribution and mail objects.
A system save
will not:
• Save the contents of any active job queues, output queues, or data queues.
Backup Tasks
From this menu you can display backup status to determine what has been previously backed
up and you set up automated backups.
Steps:
To access the Backup Tasks menu:
1. Type "GO BACKUP" on the command line and pressing the ENTER key.
