Installation Requirements and Guidelines
Thischapterdescribesthefollowing:
Site Guidelines
YoumustfollowtheguidelineslistedbelowwhenasiteisselectedfortheS8chassis.Ifyoudonot
followtheguidelines,unsatisfactorynetworkperformancemayresult.
•YoumustinstallanS8chassis,withorwithoutaPoEsubsystem,inarestrictedaccesslocation.
•ToinstalltheS8chassisas
afreestandingunitonashelvingunit,theshelfmustbeableto
support113.4kilograms(250pounds)ofstaticweight.
•Ifyouaremid‐mountingtheS8chassis,youmustbolttheracktothefloororensurethatthe
rackissupportedinsuchawaythatthemid
‐mountedS8chassisdoesnotcreatetipping
hazard.
•ToinstalltheS8chassisasarackmountedunit,caremustbetakentoensurethattherack
usedwillsupporttheunitandthattherackremainsstab le.
•Toallowproperairflowandcoolingwithintherack,ensurethe f ollowing:
–Ifmultipleproductsareinstalledintherack,therackmustcontainproductswithsimilar
airflow.
–Theremustbe5.08centimeters(2 inches)ofclearancebehindtheS8chassisandoneither
sideoftheS8chassis.
•IfyouareinstallinganS8chassisatthebottomofanenclosedrack,
leaveatleast5.08
centimeters(2 inches)betweentheflooroftherackandtheS8chassistoensureproperair
flowandcooling;otherwise,youriskthemodulesoverheating.
