Maintenance Features

  • Field Serviceability: The product is not field serviceable and should not be opened.
  • External Fuses: External fuses should be installed for the product or the system power supply.
  • Cabling and Connectors: Epec control units use heavy-duty, gold-plated, locked, and sealed AMPSEAL connectors. All module connectors are mechanically keyed to mate only with identical colors (blue, grey, and black).
    • Connectors should be pressed down to the bottom and locked, kept clean, and unused connectors should be covered with empty connectors for protection.
    • Cables, connectors, and tools must be of correct type and high quality, suitable for moisture protection, mechanical stability, and power durability.
    • Sufficient slack should be left in cables to prevent torsion, and wires should be bound to the control unit cover base knob with cable ties.
  • CAN Bus Cabling: High-quality, twisted CAN bus cable is recommended. Shielded and twisted cable is advised for longer distances or environments with electromagnetic interference. Shield grounding should be done only at one end of the cable. External 120 Ω termination resistors must be connected at both ends of the bus cable.
  • I/O Cabling: Closed circuit loops are recommended for DO or PWM pins used as inputs. Separate GND pins should be reserved for AI pins. Shielded cables are recommended for encoders and joystick connections, especially for longer distances.
  • Ethernet Cabling: Installation should minimize electromagnetic interference by routing cables away from high-power lines and using appropriate cable types (e.g., Outdoor UTP Cat5E/Cat6 for longer distances).
  • Power Supply: The power for sensors, encoders, and other equipment should be supplied from the same unit they are connected to. An external fuse is needed for reverse voltage and overload protection.
  • Welding Precautions: All connectors must be disconnected from control units before welding to prevent damage from high current flows and voltage peaks. Welding grounding should be connected close to the welding point.
  • Recycling: The product complies with WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU. It contains a lithium battery that must be removed from the PCB and recycled separately when discarding the product.
  • Cleaning: Avoid using highly alkaline/acidic substances, too hot water, or heavy mechanical abrasion when cleaning the control unit.
  • Mounting Orientation: In moist conditions, the unit must be mounted and oriented to prevent water from filling the connectors.
  • Unused Connectors: All unused connectors must be sealed properly using provided covers to maintain IP67 protection.
