15.4.5 RS-232 Cabling
Minimum requirement for creating the RS-232 data link is a 3-wire connection. When
hardware flow control is required, the 5-wire connection is needed. The following signals
are in use in a 5-wire connection:
RX = Receive Data
TX = Transmit Data
RTS = Request To Send (output)
CTS = Clear To Send (input)
GND = Signal Ground
The maximum length of the cable is 3 m
The following picture is an example of a connection between Epec 6000 series unit and PC
with 3-wire connection.
RS-232 cabling connection:
AMP23 female connector (front)
AMP23 pin
3 (TXD, transmit data)
4 (RXD, receive data)
5 (RTS, request to send [output])
6 (CTS, clear to send [input])
10 (GND)
