LUBRICATION AND CLEANING
The chain should always be kept well lubricated
and must be cleaned especially after having been
off road with mud or sand. Whenever there are dry
or rusted parts, if there are crushed or bound links,
the chain must be lubricated and the deteriorated
parts restored to working condition. It this is im-
possible, consult a Dealer.
Do not clean the chain with jets of water or steam,
high-pressure water jets or highly infl ammable sol-
vents. See the LUBRICANTS table for products rec-
ommended for lubricating and cleaning the chain.
AIR FILTER
Do not use petrol or infl ammable solvents for
cleaning the fi lter to avoid the risk of fi re or explo-
sion.
For the maintenance intervals, see (PERIODIC
MAINTENANCE CHARTS) under:
- Air fi lter.
REPLACEMENT OF AIR FILTER
- Remove the saddle.
-Unscrew and remove the screw shown in the pic-
ture below.
- Lift the engine control unit containment tray “3”
positioning it laterally as shown in the fi gure.
NOTE: Use a cloth to clean the inside of the fi lter
box before inserting the fi lter to keep dust and for-
eign objects from entering the intake main fold.
- Unscrew and remove the screw (1).
- Remove the fi lter (2)
NOTE: THE TYPE OF FILTER DOES NOT REQUIRE
CLEANING BUT ONLY REPLACEMENT which must
occur every 4000 km (2500 miles) for road use and
at least every 1000 km for off-road use.
- Replace the fi lter (2) with a new one of the same
type.
When reassembling:
- Insert the fi lter in the seat of the fi lter box.
- Manually tighten the screw (1).
