15.2 Discbrake
Disc brakes must be installed and ser-
viced
byaFLYERspecialistretailer.
Incorrectlyset-upbrakescancauseac-
cidents
andseriousinjuries.
Abraketestisrequiredbeforeeachrideandparticu-
larly
aftereachbrakeadjustment.
Braking behaviour may vary, in particular after ex-
changing
thebrakepads.
Discbrakesrequireabedding-intimetowearin
thediscsandpads.Thebrakingsystemonlyde-
livers its full performance after around 10 braking
cycles
from30km/h.Thebrakingforceincreases
during this time. Consider this during the entire
durationofthewearing-inperiod.
This wearing-in period is also required after re
-
placing
thebrakepadsordiscs.
Pay attention to any unusual noise when braking,
as this could be a sign that the brake pads have
worndowntothewearlimit.Checkthethickness
of the brake pads once the brakes have cooled
down.
Ifnecessary,havethebrakepadsreplaced.
Please do not touch the brake disc while
itisrotating.Youcansufferseriousinju-
ries
ifyourngeriscaughtinthegapsof
arotatingbrakedisc.
The brake calliper and disc may get hot
duringbraking.
Youcouldsufferburnsifyoutouchthis
partduringordirectlyafterbraking.
Have the brake disc replaced if it is worn out or
bent. This replacement procedure must be car
-
ried
outbyaFLYERspecialistretailer.
AirbubblesindiscbrakesYoucanavoid
this problem by applying the brake lever
beforetransportandthenxingitinthis
positionusingastrap.Thispreventsany
air from entering the hydraulic system.
Please note that the brake lever may not
be pulled when the wheel has been re
-
moved.
Place a spacer between the
brake blocks if you need to remove the
wheel.
15.3 Hydraulicrimbrakes
As the brake pads wear, the path of the hand
lever increases. When this happens, you may
havetoadjusttherimbrakes.Asisthecasefor
mostbikemodels,thiscanbedonebyadjusting
ascreworasettingwheelonthebrakelever.Ask
yourFLYERspecialistretailerfordetails.

Brake discs and brake pads are particu-
