3 What is an Antenna Tuner?
AnantennatunerisadeviceintheRFsignalpathbetweenthetransmitter(ortransmitter+amplifier)andits
antennatoimprovepowertransferbetweenthembytransformingtheimpedancepresentedatthe
transmitter'santennafeedoutputtoacompatiblevalue.Thisimpedancechangeprotectsthetransmitterfrom
thepotentially
damagingeffectsofhi gh reflectedpower,allowingthetransmittertoavoidreducing(folding
back)powertoprotectitself.Anantennatunerisespeciallyusefulwhentheantennaandfeedlineimpedance
isunknownandcomplex.
It'simportanttounderstandthatthetunerdoesnotchangetheactualSWRoftheantenna
andfeedline.
Instead,ittransformstheimpedancepresentedtothetransmitter.
