Frequency Counter Accuracy (96040A and 96270A)
Note
This procedure tests the accuracy of the Frequency Counter feature.
Since the Frequency Counter accuracy is defined by the accuracy of
the product frequency reference, verified in the Frequency
Reference Accuracy test, a simpler alternative functional test of the
counter feature is also described. This alternative test requires no
additional equipment.
Equipment required:
• Frequency Standard
To verify the accuracy of the optional Frequency Counter feature:
1. Warm up the UUT (continuous operation) for 24 hours, minimum.
• For the 96040A, connect the 10 MHz output from the Frequency Standard
to the UUT rear panel 50 MHz Counter, Modulation, Leveling, and
Frequency Pull BNC connector using a BNC male – male cable
assembly.
• For the 96270A connect the 10 MHz output from the Frequency Standard
to the UUT rear panel 300 MHz Counter BNC connector using a BNC
male – male cable assembly.
2. On the UUT, push to select the Frequency Counter function, followed
by the Frequency Counter softkey.
3. Select the 80 s Gate Time and wait until a valid reading is shown. (If required,
a reading can be triggered by pushing the Reading Mode, followed by Single
Shot, and then Take Reading softkeys).
4. Check that the reading is between 10.000 000 051 MHz and
9.999 999 949 MHz.
For the alternative Frequency Counter feature functional test:
• For the 96040A, connect the UUT rear panel REF FREQUENCY OUTPUT to
the 50 MHz Counter, Modulation, Leveling, and Frequency Pull BNC
connector using a BNC male – male cable assembly and enable the REF
FREQUENCY OUTPUT at 10 MHz.
• For the 96270A connect the UUT rear panel REF FREQUENCY OUTPUT to
the 300 MHz Counter BNC connector using a BNC male – male cable
