2042480-001 C Dash 2500 Patient Monitor 4-7
Alarms: Responding to Alarms
Responding to Alarms
If the accuracy of any value is questioned, first check the patient, then the
Monitor. When using a remote alarm, the Dash 2500 should be considered the
primary alarm source; all alarms must be silenced at the Monitor, not through
the central station.
NOTE: Always check the Silence Alarm hardkey and alarm message field to
ensure all alarms are enabled again before leaving the Monitor.
How to respond to an alarm
1. Assess the patient's condition.
2. Push Silence Alarm hardkey.
3. Identify cause of the alarm.
4. Correct the alarming condition.
How to respond to a limit alarm
1. Assess the patient's condition.
2. Push Silence Alarm hardkey and, if necessary, choose the SelectBox
containing the limit alarm message (e.g., NIBP OUT OF LIMITS) to
acknowledge the alarm.
3. Adjust the alarm limits if necessary (refer to Adjust Alarms menu).
Silence Alarm Hardkey
Once an alarm has been silenced and as long as no new crisis alarms occur, the
allotted silence time (1 or 2 minutes, user-selectable under Config settings
menu) must expire before the alarm will sound again. Any new crisis alarm
violation overrides the alarm silence function. You may reactivate the alarms at
any time during the silence period by pushing the Silence Alarm hardkey again.
Crisis Alarms
If you correct the problem without pushing the Silence Alarm hardkey, the
alarm will continue. You must always acknowledge a crisis alarm by
pushing the Silence Alarm hardkey.
If the Monitor is connected to a remote alarm and a crisis alarm occurs, you
must push the Silence Alarm hardkey to acknowledge the alarm.
