Always replace the drive chain and sprockets
as a set. Otherwise the new part will wear
prematurely.
CAUTION
· Loose pins
· Excessive wear
If the drive chain or sprockets are excessively
worn or damaged, they should be replaced.
Sprockets
· Kinked or binding links
· Damaged or missing O-rings
· Excessively worn teeth
· Dry or rusted links
· Improper adjustment
· Broken or damaged teeth
If the drive chain has damaged rollers, loose
links or missing O-rings, replace it. If the
chain is dry or rusted, it should be lubricated.
Lubricate the chain if the links are kinked or
binding. If the problem is not solved after
lubrication, replace the chain.

When operated at sustained high speeds or
under conditions of frequent rapid
acceleration, the chain may require more
frequent adjustments.
If the drive chain requires adjustment, follow
the procedures below:
î Loosen the rear axle nut (1).
î Turn the engine off, raise the rear wheel off the
ground by placing a support block under the
engine and shift the transmission into neutral.
î Turn right and left adjusting nuts an equal
number of turns until the correct drive chain
slack is obtained. Turn the adjusting nuts
clockwise to tighten the chain, or
counterclockwise to provide more slack.
Drive chain slack should be 25 mm at a
point midway between the drive sprocket
and the rear wheel sprocket. Rotate the rear
wheel and recheck the slack at other
sections of the chain.
Torque: 93 N-m (9.3 kgf-m)
î Check that the rear axle alignment is correct.
The index mark (5) should be aligned with
the rear edge of adjusting slot (6).
Adjustment
î Tighten the rear axle nut.
Drive chain slack should be checked and
adjusted, if necessary, every 1000 km.
î Loosen the lock nuts (3) on both adjusting
nuts (4).
î If the rear axle is misaligned, turn the left or
right adjusting nut to align it correctly. After
adjustment, recheck chain slack.
