5.3. Notes for reproducible measurement results.
5.3.1. Information from tesa® SE for preconditioning
tesa UV-Strips contain highly sensitive, reactive raw materials. For perfect
repeatability it is essential to provide the right methodology and precondi-
tioning. Climatic conditions have to be on the same level to ensure valid
measurements. Before usage tesa UV-Strips have to be stored inside a
climate cabinet or at constant climate conditions (documentation of relative
humidity and temperature) for about 48 h.
5.3.2. General Information
Line speed Irradiation time
When measuring a UV dose, the irradiation time is a crucial factor in the
measurement result. For precise measuring, it is important that the irradia-
tion time is exactly the same for two comparable measurements. For appli-
cations in roll or sheet fed printing, this requirements applies for the line
speed.
Surface
Sticking the strip onto reflective material surfaces can cause measurement
deviations. Make sure, for comparable measurements, that the strip is al-
ways stuck to the same type of surface (colour, structure, material), if pos-
sible in the same place.
Spectrum of lamp
The measurement results depend on the spectral composition of the UV-
light. Comparative measurement on different UV-Systems with different
lamps, reflectors or filters are not comparable.
Distance
With every measurements, the distance from the UV lamp must always be
exactly the same. In addition, make sure that the tesa UV-Strip is stuck to
the base over the full area.
Temperature range
The photochemical reaction of the strip is affected by high temperatures.
Make sure that the strip does not heat up to above 40°C during the meas-
urement.
Soiling
The surface of the strip shoud not be soiled by fingerprints or anything else.
The strips may only be removed from the packaging shortly before use and
may only be touched with fingers by the pull-tab. In addition, make sure that
the strip is not bent or torn.
