5.6 Ethernet Cable
Ethernet cables are classified into two types: straight-through cables and crossover cables.
5.6.1 Introduction
Ethernet cable is of two types: the straight-through cable and the crossover cable.
Straight-through Cable
The straight-through cable is used to connect the Ethernet interfaces between the following
devices:
l A CX device and a hub
l A CX device and an Ethernet switch
l A computer and an Ethernet switch
l A computer and a hub
Crossover Cable
The crossover cable is used to connect the Ethernet interfaces between the following devices:
l A CX device and a CX device
l A CX device and a computer
l A hub and a hub
l A hub and a switch
l A switch and a switch
l A computer and a computer
5.6.2 Structure
As shown in Figure 5-4, the straight-through cable and the crossover cable are standard shielded
network cables, and uses an RJ45 connector shown in Figure 5-5.
