Set
Up
the System Console
Use the information
in
this chapter
to
assist
in
identifying and setting up the system console.
Depending
on
the type of workstation attachment connector (see Figure
2-1
on
page 2-3,

),
the
system console
can
be one of the following:
Twinaxial workstation
The console may
be
one of the following:
- Nonprogrammable workstation (for example,
an
IBM
3196 or 3197)

IBM
ThinkPad* or similar non-IBM device with a 5250 Emulation PCMCIA adapter

Note: A DOS, Windows**, OS/2 or Client Access/400 5250 emulation program, should
be
used
to
interface with the
9401
System Unit.

ASCII workstation
The console may be one of the following:
- Nonprogrammable workstation (for example,
an
IBM
3151
or 3161)

ThinkPad (or similar non-IBM device) or IBM-compatible personal computer with a serial con-
nection capable of line speeds ranging from 1200
to
38400 bps

Note: A DOS ASCII terminal emulation or Client Access/400 program should
be
used to interface
with the
9401
System Unit
Client Access/400 Console
The console
is
the following:

IBM
ThinkPad (or similar non-IBM device) or IBM-compatible personal computer with a serial con-
nection capable of a line speed of 9600 bps

Notes:
1.
Microsoft Windows**

or OS/2 2.0, along with Personal Communications 5250 (part of the
Client Access/400 product}, should
be
used
to
interface with the
9401
System Unit.
2.
Client Access/400 Console provides a display emulation.
It
does not provide any other Client
Access/400 function.
If
other Client Access functions (shared folders, virtual print, and so
on)
are needed, a local area network (LAN) card must
be
installed
in
the personal computer.
